Artists Statement

My artists statement:

"I am a student at Orkney College, currently in my second year of studying BA Fine Art. I work with mixed media, using techniques such as monoprinting and continuous line drawing, to create spontaneous works suggesting a chaotic outpouring of emotion.
Art has always been a means of expression for myself, so I put as much energy, emotion and passion into my works as possible.
As I have suffered mental illness my whole life, it has become important to me to bring it into my artwork. I am my artwork and my artwork is me. My art cannot lie, as it can only be an expression of myself and what I have been through. I aim to take the darkness I have suffered and turn it into something beautiful, something meaningful, that can hopefully bring about awareness and help others who have experienced what I have.
I hope that my work can resonate within others, to make them feel something, and hopefully make them realise that, although there is darkness in the world, it doesn’t have to be hidden away and it doesn’t have to be hideous.
We can make something beautiful out of the ugly and we can brighten up even the darkest situations."

The poster I made for my exhibition at our local Blide Trust! I realised afterwards that I probably should have put the address of Blide Trust down as some people didn't know where it was, but for one of my first posters I'm rather pleased with myself!
